Addison Russell Called to Triple-A Sacramento River Cats

We all knew this day would come, Ports fans. We are sad but extremely happy to see how quickly young star, Addison Russell, has moved through the Oakland A's organization. Even though, we will likely see him move to Double-A in the 2014 season, it will be a foreshadowing of things to come to see him in Sacramento red and gold.

Zack Bayrouty, broadcaster for the Stockton Ports, tweeted late last night..

Bakersfield's Pitching Wins The Day, Ports Fall 4-1

Stockton took an early lead last night with a homer to right field from Bruce Maxwell. However, it would prove to be the only hit and run scored by the Ports in the 4-1 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze.

The Boys of Banner Island have now a slim chance of making it to the playoffs with the San Jose Giants beating the Visalia Rawhide. But, since the Modesto Nuts lost to the Inland Empire 66'ers, that leaves a slight opening for the Ports to squeeze into a spot in the playoffs if they can sweep the Nuts through the weekend.

Tonight is the start of that 4-game series in Modesto with starting pitcher James Simmons(8-7, 5.62ERA) taking the mound. If Simmons can keep his solid streak going, this might give the Ports enough room to get their hitting in order and get some wins.

Ports Pitching Shines Again in Second Win Against Bakersfield

Tanner Peters took the mound last night against the Bakersfield Blaze, retiring 12, allowing only 2 hits in 7.1 innings pitched and got the win, 4-3. Peters is racking up the stats and it won't be long before we see him move up.

Michael Ynoa was activated from the DL and pitched in the 9th inning and recorded his first save of his season in Stockton.

The Ports will try for the 3-game sweep of Bakersfield tonight as Ryan Doolittle(0-1, 2.70ERA) starts for Stockton. Many Stockton fans are expecting big things from this young man. If his name sounds familiar, it should. His big brother is Sean Doolittle of the Oakland Athletics. Sean put up big numbers in Stockton in the 2012 season so I'm sure Ryan may feel some pressure to do the same.

Josh Bowman Pitches a Complete Game in Stockton's Win in Bakersfield

Josh Bowman(6-6, 5.69 ERA) became the 3rd Ports player since 2005 to pitch a complete game as Stockton beat the Bakersfield Blaze, 3-1. Bowman allowed only 1 run(solo HR) on 5 hits.

Antonio Lamas singled in the 3rd to bring in Myrio Richard and Bobby Crocker for the first 2 runs of the game. A solo home run to right-center at Sam Lynn Ballpark by Bruce Maxwell in the 6th gave them their third and final run of the evening.

Tanner Peters(11-7, 4.08 ERA) steps to the rubber tonight as the Ports take the Blaze on again for the second game of their 3-game series. Peters leads the Ports pitching staff in wins, strikeouts, ERA and WHIP.

Keep on fighting Ports!

Stockton Ports Fall to Visalia in Last Regular Season Home Game

The Ports had trouble last night getting the bats swinging and fell to the Rawhide, 3-1. The Boys of Banner Island are headed to Bakersfield for a 3-game series with the Blaze before coming back this way to Modesto for the final 4 games of the regular season.

So, yes, I did make it to the game last night. There were many thank you's and goodbye's to be said. I hope to see my fellow Section 117'ers next season.

First of all, I would like to thank you to the Stockton Ports front office for all your hard work in providing an enjoyable season, specifically Jeremy Neisser and Lisa Peterson. Thank you to Mike Conway and Zack Bayrouty for being the "voices" of the Stockton Ports, both at home and over the radio. Thanks to all staff in the park, including our Section 117 green-shirt, Michelle, who at least tried to keep the notorious Kevin in check.

Of course, thank you to the Boys of Banner Island Ballpark. You all have bright futures ahead. I've said this to a few of you already but, I would like to see you again, however, I hope I don't. I hope you move onwards and upwards. Oakland awaits.

"All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” -Walt Disney

Special thanks to Brian, Melissa and Carmen for being good people and becoming our friends.

I will continue to post my "Baseball News" section and any other pictures that I have taken. I will also give some more updates as we move into the post season in MLB and MiLB. I will also be introducing a collector's section with memorabilia that friends and I have collected.

This was my first time being a season ticket holder for any sport. I hope to make it a tradition in my family. I already can't wait for next season! #Section117 #GoPorts

The Ports Win on Fan Appreciation Night

All I'm going to say is, FINALLY. The Ports made an outstanding effort last night to take a 10-8 win versus the Visalia Rawhide. The Boys of Banner Island were due for a break and they worked hard for it.

The win happened to fall on the second to last home game for the Ports which happened to be Fan Appreciation Night. There were raffles and giveaways, including a Josh Donaldson tshirt for the first 1000 fans through the gates, signed baseballs, bats and other memorabilia. For season ticket holders, there was a barbecue dinner behind the bullpen seating area. From the comments of several fans and season ticket holders from previous years, the food provided was considerably better than years before. Season ticket holders also had the bonus of 40% off anything at the Team Store, which I got to capitalize on. I finally was able to get the Friday night alternate cap with 5 O'Clock Dock on the front.

I think my family and I will be going tonight. I had originally thought that last night would be our last game of the season. Much has happened throughout this summer and honestly, it hasn't all been good. But the good has, by far, outweighed the bad. I've met some good people and made some new friends. Friends I hope I'll have in seasons to come.

Pink Night Jersey "Silent" Auction

So, like I said in my previous posting, I do hope that Pink Night was successful on every front, including, the jersey auction and I hope that thousands of dollars were raised in support of it. However, I believe this process can be refined, both by the Ports staff as well as the Stockton community.

First of all, rules need to be made regarding HOW to bid. And I guess most of that wouldn't be necessary if that element of 'ghetto Stockton' didn't show up and rear its ugly face. But, that being said, bidding would be easier if the number of jerseys you are allowed to bid on is limited to 2 or 3. Case in point: There was one person last night that bid on every single jersey. I realize that it's all for charity but, come on people, is doing this just a ploy to be recognized by your own peers so you can say, 'I bid on every single jersey cuz I'm Mizz Poster Child of Breast Cancer Awareness!'? Nobody's buying it. What if you won 10 jerseys? You're telling me that you would plunk down a credit card for..calculating..and this is a low figure..$850??? No. Stop showing off. We learned not to do that in 1st grade.

Second, if you see a player's name on the bid sheet, chances are, he wants his jersey. Recognize that these guys have families, wives and girlfriends. They don't need you bidding them up and taking their jerseys from them if they want to gift it to their own family. I overheard one of Stockton's ghetto's finest say last night as they were hovering over a bid sheet, mind you, after being told to step back by staff, "He's gonna be so mad. I'm gonna sell it back to him!" How lowbrow do you have to be that, in order to be noticed by a player, you need to be a douchebag? This person continued hovering and placing what I could only assume it's family around to 'protect' the bid sheet from other bidders, even to the point of elbowing a few from getting close. Fortunately, this person did NOT win the jersey she was after and showed her ignorance and ill upbringing by cursing loudly, in front of young people, including her own child, at the young woman who placed the last bid. She continued to curse, whine and pout when all was said and done.

Ah Stockton, you never cease to disappoint.

As we here in Stockton have heard and some take pride in saying, "You live in Stockton, not Fairyland." Unfortunately there is a 'type' that shows up at every public event or function here in town. It is a 'type' that knows no courtesy, no kindness, no tact, no social civility, no sophistication and an inordinate sense of entitlement, commonly referred to as, "ghetto."

So, Stockton Ports organization, if you are reading, please, exact some new rules regarding these "silent" auctions and please enforce them.

Stockton Takes a Loss on a Special Night

It was a special night designated for Breast Cancer Awareness, sponsored by St. Joseph's Medical Center, Breast Health Services, which included a raffle of player-donated memorabilia, special drawings and a silent auction for game-used player jerseys(which there was nothing silent about it, more on this later).

Tanner Peters, I'm sure, would like to have that 2nd inning to do over. Along with a run in the 1st, a 3-run shot in the 2nd from Visalia, was all they needed to defeat the Boys of Banner Island.

Antonio Lamas hit an RBI single in the 3rd to put the Ports on the board and then in the 5th, Addison Russell hit a solo homer to add one more and make the final score, 4-2 Visalia.

I hope this was a successful night for Breast Cancer Awareness and St. Joe's. My mother is a survivor of 30 years and I hope that last night highlighted the benefits of getting checked and enlightened families about the disease and prevention of it.

The Ports Season is Almost Over, Let's Just Enjoy Baseball

The Stockton Ports finished up their series with the San Jose Giants last night with an 8-1 loss. Brett Anderson, Oakland A's pitcher rehabbing with the Ports last night, went 3.1 innings, striking out 6, walking 2, allowing 5 hits and 5 runs.

Tonight is Pink Night! The Ports will be wearing pink jerseys with the Friday night 'Stockton' alternate logos. There will be a silent auction for pink jerseys of each player. Fireworks will conclude tonight's game to celebrate the event.

Stockton Ports' Bullpen Takes a Beating

I hope this isn't a trend. I don't think it will be since I heard today that we should be getting new blood in our bullpen, Ryan Doolittle. Name sound familiar? It should. His big brother is Sean Doolittle, also of the Oakland A's organization. Hopefully little bro can give the Ports some much needed support in the pen.

Last night's game was a tragedy on several fronts. First of all, I shouldn't have say outside of Section 117. Second, the Ports bats were live through the first half of the game with Raul Alcantara on the mound. Come the 7th inning, the Giants bats awoke and there was no stopping the bleeding. The Ports went through Omar Duran, Jonathan Joseph and T.J. Walz, after Alcantara, with Walz taking the loss.

Tonight should see some action or, better yet, no action, with Oakland A's vet, Brett Anderson rehabbing with the Ports tonight. If Anderson can keep San Jose quiet for a few innings and Stockton's bats can get hot early on, we can prevent the sweep.

The Ports show their late season fatigue last night

At least I hope that's what this was. Tony Thompson, Addison Russell and Bobby Crocker are still hot as they added H's and RBI's to their tally. Sadly, these three cannot carry the pitching performance and defensive playing.

Again, I'm leaving this a short review of last night since it was just a bit disappointing. Stockton is left with another double-digit loss to the San Jose Giants, 13-2.

Former Port Max Stassi Makes Major League Debut in Texas

Stockton Ports Make Big Annoucement: A's & Ports Will Extend Player Development Contract

The Oakland Athletics and the Stockton Ports have jointly decided to extend their Player Development Contract (PDC) through to the 2016 season. They had previously had a two year agreement through the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

This is especially good news to the fans in the Stockton area, being so close to the bay area and being able to see former Ports in the Big Leagues as well as current A's players in rehab assignments playing in Banner Island.

Congratulations Stockton!

Tony Thompson Named California League Player of the Week

Tony Thompson has been an asset to this team, both in his hitting ability and his skill at 1st base since the call-up of Max Muncy to double-A Midland. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw this young man move up quickly if this pattern continues.

Oakland Athletics pitcher, Brett Anderson, to rehab with the Ports Thursday

The Stockton Ports confirmed yesterday that Brett Anderson, a LHP from the Oakland A's will rehab with the team on Thursday. He was placed on the disabled list on May 1st after an ankle injury.

The Ports host the San Jose Giants tonight through Thursday in a 3-game series.

What the heck happened over the weekend!?!

I leave town for a weekend and the wheels fall off.

Saturday night. Tanner Peters. Fantastic, as he K'd 12 in all over 5.1 innings. However, it would not be enough, as he allowed 5 runs and the relief combined would allow 3 more. Peters would take his 4th loss from Visalia as the Ports lose the first road game since the start last Tuesday.

Sunday night. I really don't understand what happened. I don't really even want to talk about how they could blow a 7-0 lead and end the night with Visalia on top, 21-8.

On that note, this is all I'm writing about these two games.

Stockton Por...WTF?

who thought this was a good idea?

The Ports get hot in the 7th at Lake Elsinore

Down by 3 runs going into the 7th inning, the Stockton Ports surged ahead starting with a single from B.A. Vollmuth and then a double by Antonio Lamas to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Next, catcher Bruce Maxwell hit a 2-run double to tighten the gap to 4-3. This exchange ended the Storm's starting pitcher, Bryce Morrow's time on the mound.

After Dusty Robinson's strikeout for the 2nd out, Phil Pohl stepped in to hit an RBI double to bring Maxwell in, to tie up the game, 4-4. Myrio Richard then hit an RBI single to bring Pohl in for the go-ahead run with the final score, 5-4.

Relief pitcher Omar Duran and closer Pedro Viola combined to send back to the dugout 13 of 15 of the last batters from Lake Elsinore, the latter, Viola, completing the save.

Today, pitcher Tanner Peters is making the start. It's his first start coming off of his near perfect game at home last Friday, the 9th. Tanner faces off with Lake Elsinore's star pitcher, James Needy(8-4, 3.66).

Hopefully, with this set of wins and with a possible sweep there in Lake Elsinore, they can bring some of that to Visalia and then back home to Banner Island. I would love to see these boys post-season!

CORRECTION: Raul Alcantara (4-3, 3.71ERA) will be pitching tonight.

Big Hits in Lake Elsinore Last Night

Last night at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, the Stockton Ports showed the Storm how things are done in Northern California. The Boys of Banner Island racked up 10 runs on 18 hits, tying their road hit record for the season.

The Ports took an early lead in the 1st with a sacrifice fly by Tony Thompson to score Myrio Richard. In the 2nd inning, with the bases loaded, Addison Russell stepped to the plate and hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 5-0.

Stockton never lost the lead though giving up 6 runs to the Storm. The Ports bats were lively last night with another highlight from Phil Pohl, a solo home run in the 9th, giving them their final run of the evening at 10.

The Ports play the second game of their three-game series tonight with James Simmons pitching for the Stockton boys.

The Stockton Ports on 6-game road trip, Aug. 13-18, 2013

The Boys of Banner Island will be heading to Lake Elsinore, CA for a a 3-game series with the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. I had to look up where Lake Elsinore because, although I've heard of the place, I've never been there or knew where exactly it was on the map. It's about 45 miles southeast of Anaheim, CA(I know where Disneyland is).

This Friday, they will come back north for a 3-game series with the Visalia Rawhide, the Class-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a day off on Monday, the 19th, the Ports will start their last two home game series of the regular season. First, a 3-game series with the San Jose Giants and then a 4-game series again with the Visalia Rawhide.

The Ports are in third place in the overall California League North standings.
