Cards Win In Game 1 Of The NLCS

And I say that with a bitten lip.

The game ended up being one of the longest in postseason history. But, it didn't have to be. The call in question was in the 10th. Mark Ellis had punched a triple and made an attempt to reach home on a tag up from third. Carlos Beltran made the throw from center field to Yadier Molina who made the catch, however, based on all camera angles that have been shown, does NOT tag Ellis at the plate. The umpire, obviously not at an angle to see the non-tag, calls Mark Ellis out at home.

Angle From Right Field  No Tag

Right Side of Home Plate  No Tag

Televised Play via YouTube  No Tag

The rules of MLB state that the catcher MUST tag the runner in his attempt to score. Seeing as this was not done, the Red Birds got away with this game. But I digress...

Game 2 today with Kershaw on the mound. The Cardinals notoriously have a problem hitting on left-handed pitchers and with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, this should be another epic game.

Andre Ethier is out of the lineup today, with Skip Schumacher taking his place also in center field. Honestly, Ethier hasn't been 100% and I was surprised they played him last night. Schumacher has been a solid fielder for the Dodgers, playing multiple positions over the last few months, though this will be the first start he's had in center field. I love Andre's game and appreciate his fire for wanting to play right now but, at some point, you have to recognize your limitations.

Let's get this win today and tie it up. #GoDodgers
