Gray Is Solid But Verlander Just Too Much For Oakland

As much as I wanted a rematch of the 1988 World Series, it just wasn't meant to be. It was a frustrating loss that echoed last years race to the top when the two teams were in the same positions.

Sonny Gray, though taking the loss, pitched a solid 5 2/3 innings, Unfortunately, he suffered a broken thumb from a comebacker off of a Prince Fielder grounder. He is due to have an MRI today.

Justin Verlander, however, threw a gem with 8 scoreless innings. He was locked in and prepared last night. There really wasn't much Oakland could do about him. They needed to focus and try to get the hits in and focus on their defense. That being said, Oakland goes down, 3-0.

You had a good run, A's. Let this last game go and focus on next season. You have plenty of new blood and have much to work on. Get back on it and get good. Keep the faith and bring it in 2014!
