The Ports take a loss but still win the series, 2/3

Although it was a tough loss to take last night, the Ports showed a fire that I knew was in them. They showed their hustle in running out every ground ball and every fly out. Some mistakes were made but, in my eyes, the Ports showed some true heart last night. Although, Bobby Crocker was thrown out of the game, he showed an intensity that, as Ports fans, we love to see. We want to see that passion for the game, especially from one of our own.

One of the most spectacular things I've seen in a long time, even though this weekend was historically fantastic, was the first in-the-park homerun I've ever had the chance to witness in person. Addison Russell, the youngest player on the Stockton Ports, seemed to have wings, flying around the diamond ala Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez. Russell had a hit what looked like an easy double in the 5th inning, however, the ball hit the wall and out of reach for the ill prepared Nuts center fielder. The ball bounced wide towards mid-left field and the fielder could not get to it quickly. By this time, Addison had rounded 2nd base and was being waived home by, manager/3rd base coach, Webster Garrison. The Nuts had made up ground, hitting their cutoff man and throwing home. Addison slid into home and the throw from the Nuts shortstop was not in time. The crowd's cheers I'm sure could be heard within a 5 mile radius of Banner Island.
